There is a particular kind of intelligence in things that are given a second life, not as a compromise, but as an evolution. With Re-Cashmere & Re-Wool, Prada extends the circular approach first articulated through Re-Nylon into the register of natural fiber, translating a commitment to lower-impact responsible material sourcing into two of fashion’s most storied materials: wool and cashmere.
Where Prada Re-Nylon began its journey from pre and post-consumer nylon waste, Re- Cashmere & Re-Wool start from a different perspective. Here, circularity begins upstream, at the moment of making: pre-consumer offcuts, spinning residues and cutting-room remainders are gathered, sorted, and recycled into high-quality secondary raw materials that return to the production cycle.
A PRINCIPLE ACROSS THE GROUP’S VALUE CHAIN
Re-Cashmere & Re-Wool give tangible form to a circular approach embedded in the Prada Group's broader environmental commitment, a principle woven throughout the value chain and applied at both product and process levels.
The two projects mark a natural evolution of the roadmap the Prada Group defined in 2023 for the transition of its principal raw materials toward lower-impact solutions, within which traceability stands as a foundational tool for managing environmental impact upstream.
As with Re-Nylon, every piece within the Re-Cashmere & Re-Wool universe carries an NFC tag, enabling access to the Aura Consortium platform. Through this digital gateway, customers can trace the journey of their garment: the origins of the fibers, the suppliers, the country where the materials were processed and the successive stages. The platform also provides a Digital Certificate of Authenticity, secured by blockchain technology to ensure its immutability.
RE-CASHMERE: A SECOND LIFE FOR A PREMIUM MATERIAL
Re-Cashmere begins with cashmere of exceptional quality: the fine residues of the spinning process together with cashmere offcuts, also collected from Prada Group’s own Torgiano facility, where knitwear prototyping and select processing take place.
These fine cashmere fragments are collected, sorted and separated by color, a process that removes the need for subsequent dyeing, before being carded and refined into new yarn.
This recycling process takes place entirely in Italy. The cashmere entering the process is certified by the Sustainable Fibre Alliance (SFA), guaranteeing responsible, traceable cashmere produced to recognized environmental and social standards; the yarn that emerges from the recycling process is certified to the Global Recycled Standard (GRS).The yarn is then crafted into men’s and women’s sweaters1, each one an expression of circularity through the use of high-quality recycled materials.
RE-WOOL: PRECISION FROM SURPLUS
Re-Wool draws its material from wool and cashmere, defective fabrics and cutting-room remainders gathered across the different lines of the Prada Group. The resulting yarn blends virgin wool, certified to the Responsible Wool Standard (RWS), recycled wool and a hint of recycled cashmere, both Global Recycled Standard (GRS) certified2.
The recycling process is precision: leftover materials are processed to remove any non-wool components and sorted by color, again by passing the need for dyeing. The fabric is then reduced to filament through wet shredding, a process of fragmentation carried out within a liquid medium before undergoing carded spinning, from which new yarn, and new fabric are born.
Re-Wool takes shape as trousers, jackets, skirts and dresses for women, translating a rigorous industrial process into pieces both timeless and utterly contemporary. The range speaks in the vocabulary of everyday elegance: ready-to-wear for men and women, built around the idea of layering. Classic silhouettes, a clean and considered hand, and the distinctive twist of Prada sensibility: garments made not to announce themselves, but to be lived in, season after season.
CRAFTSMANSHIP, MEASURED IN TIME
Behind each garment stands a network of specialized suppliers, bound together in close collaboration across every stage of the process: a reminder that meaningful change is, at its core, always a collective act. Re-Cashmere & Re-Wool are made entirely in Italy, in Tuscany and Umbria, where knitwear craftmanship finds its truest expression. Because production depends on the material available at any given moment, each piece exists on its own terms, following the rhythm of the yarn rather than the calendar: quantities are inherently limited, and even a recurring color, like the blue of one season, may never be exactly replicated the next, a subtle signature of the material’s own history.
The two projects are united by a single conviction: that circularity and quality are not opposing forces, but complementary ones. Together, they also contribute to reducing GHG emissions through the use of recycled materials3.
